KOLO is a publishing house dedicated to promoting story telling by and representation of Black women in literary works.
KOLO is a premier literary publishing house by Black women for Black women authors. KOLO strives to diversify authorship within the literary field by expanding opportunities for Black women authors to be published in a wide array of categories ranging from science fiction to romance novels and everything in between. KOLO takes its name from the West African dialect of pidgin, in which it means “to go crazy or mad”. In this same vein, the mission of KOLO is to shake up the literary world; with less than 6% of books in the U.S. market written by Black authors, there is a clear demonstrated need for resources, exposure, and equitable opportunities to get material written by Black women authors, in particular, into the hands of eager readers. KOLO looks to bridge the gap between social media, entertainment, and written works by engaging with its audience on a myriad of platforms to showcase how enjoyable and instrumental reading can be to our day to day lives. Ultimately, KOLO intends to expand the breadth of categories and circumstances made available for Black women who yearn to and deserve to tell their stories to the world.
